Following my dissertation research Bird Messengers, these two works amplify the shamanic imagination. Such active imagination is reflective of inner processes also seen through the alchemical imagination, particularly with the invitation to bird and animal figures. In the alchemical imagination, birds in particular are found to symbolically represent stages of inner transformation.
The two works presented are the result of active imagination whilst listening to a shamanic drumming track. Immediately following the sessions, I wrote down my experience. I later amplified some of those experiences through these paintings.
The works were included in an exhibition hosted at the Art & Psyche Symposium 2026, at the Limerick School of Art and Design on 18th April 2026.
